CAREER AWARENESS PROGRAM

ApprenticeSearch.com Logo

For more than 30 years, HIEC has provided programs and services that support students as they prepare to transition into high school, allowing them to imagine a post-secondary pathway that will set them up for future success.

Our interactive Career Lab provides students and educators with access to current information on a wide range of career options for a variety of learners. The Career Lab complements and extends career/life planning beyond the classroom and is designed to support students as they prepare to make the transition to secondary school and beyond.

What Can Students Expect from the Career Lab?

The Career Lab workshop helps students identify their skills and abilities, and gives them the opportunity to investigate areas of occupational interest

Students will use a four-step inquiry process commonly used in career/life planning: knowing yourself; exploring opportunities; making decisions and setting goals; and achieving goals and making transitions

Students and teachers have the opportunity to request material and participate in the simulation program, The Real Game, which provides them with a better understanding of working conditions, salaries, future trends, an post-secondary pathways for the jobs that interest them.

Virtual Career Lab

We also offer our Career Lab virtually, perfect for in-person and online classrooms, homeschooling pods, libraries and anybody else who is looking to deliver career awareness programming to young people. Download our brochure.

I found out about things that interest me that I wouldn’t have found by myself.

The career centre helped me to figure out what job I would like to have. It helped me to decide what types of courses I should take in high school. I am excited to start working now.

This is an AMAZING experience! I think it answered a billion questions that I had! Thank you so much!
Student
Students were able to learn a lot more about potential careers in one afternoon than I could teach them in several classes.

I like that it gets the students thinking more about their education choices and possible careers. Their questions go beyond just our time at the Career Centre.
