Who We Are

HIEC is an innovative not-for-profit social enterprise focusing on partnership, mentorship and workforce development. For over 30 years, we’ve been working to build stronger connections between educators, employers and the students who will make up our future workforce.
What We Do

We deliver an interactive and informative Career Awareness Program, facilitate meaningful experiential learning opportunities, host inspiring community events, and manage multiple online communities with a focus on workforce development.
Why We Do It

We believe that students will be more successful if they are empowered to make informed and inspired career choices, connected with opportunities for experiential learning, and supported in managing their transition from school to career.
  • Career conversations change lives. Students aged 14–16 who have career conversations report greater life satisfaction at age 26 (OECD, 2023). Through the Ontario Career Lab, we give every Grade 9 and 10 student in Ontario the opportunity to connect with volunteer career coaches — helping them make informed choices and build brighter futures.
  • 700,000 skilled trades workers will retire in Canada by 2028. ApprenticeSearch.com connects youth, career changers, and underrepresented groups with employers and apprenticeship opportunities to fill the gap.
  • 75% of students who participate in our flagship Career Awareness Program say gaining career-related experience is important — yet almost 40% didn’t know about high school co-op until they visited our Career Lab. We bridge that information gap so students don’t miss life-changing opportunities.
  • 700+ students attend our Women as Career Coaches mentorship event every year — meeting role models who inspire and guide them toward their goals.
